Please feel free to take a look at the first video on this page from Rick Simpson's website. While we do not support the medical claims made by Mr. Simpson with regards to a cure for cancer, we do acknowledge this plant has shown to be a benefit for many medical issues ailing human kind, and our animals as well, for more than the last 6,000 years. That is a hefty medical trial by an stretch of the imagination.
The Canadian Medical Association came out more than ten years ago in favor or this plant's medical uses. The United States medical establishment has not had the freedom to investigate clinically the purported medical uses of this plant as the federal government in the early part of the last century deemed the plant to have no medical use whatsoever. We must remember, or come to the understanding, that laws regarding narcotics in the United States are not made based on medical evidence. Rather, such laws are made based on politics and prejudice with no input from the medical community.
For instance, the federal government recently placed Hydrocodone in the schedule II drug listing. While we agree there is an issue with opioid addiction in the United States the more appropriate action would be to require physicians and surgeons to monitor patients and the dose of the opioid titrated to a point where the patient is effectively weened off when there is no longer a need. This is proper patient management. And, when such a protocol is followed there is little to no chance of a patient being addicted at the end of the need for the medicine.
At any rate, please take a look at the videos on this page for further education:
What I can say is this plant has shown to be effective in controlling severe seizures in children and adult. It has shown to be effective in controlling chronic pain. And, it does this without any addictive qualities whatsoever.
