There are some 150,000 men and women having served this nation in the three most recent episodes of war who suffer from PTSD. There is no cure for this disease.
That number is those who are activilty seeking treatment through the Veterans Administration. As to the true number, no one knows. However, all will agree it is certainly far more than that.
We owe a debt of gratitude to these young men and women. And, we certainly owe them a great deal more than they have been given in return for their service to this nation. War is hell. No one, not one soul, who has ever gone to war has returned home the same as when they left. This is true for every war there ever was; or ever will be.
The young are always sent out by the old to face death or loss of limb.
To quote a phrase from an old USA Civil War song, "When will we ever learn."
