From time to time it is important to set out a reminder of just what our mission, our purpose, truly is.
We do not preach, nor do we teach. We are caregivers. To provide care and comfort to homeless veterans of the United States Military Service is our one and only purpose. Our goal is to make their time as they pass from this life to the next as peaceful, bearable as is possible.
The community is ecumenical as is the community in Taize, France, upon which our foundation is made. One of the principles of the Taize Community is they earn their finances through there own labor, not being dependent upon donations from the outside. Our goal must also be to not become dependent upon outside donations.
Several suggestions have been made: sandwich shop, candy shop, vending machines, and so on. The operation of a sandwich shop in town and a unique bed and breakfast in the high country, outside the city, are the two best suggestions we have received. We are currently exploring those avenues.
Either of these businesses would provide sufficient funds to finance our work with veterans here in New Mexico.
We are by no means limiting ourselves to just New Mexico as we have a vision of establishing facilities in other areas of the United States, where there is a need. Another location where we might practice our mission of being caregivers.
Our doors are open to all who come with a desire to serve others.
