We have begun to discuss a 'modern' monasticism, a life of community to whom all who follow Christ are called. A community no different than we find in the early Church. We have communal and private prayers in community.
Most private prayer takes place at morning and evening, especially after Compline. Here is a typical contemplative's silent time with the Bridegroom (Christ):
Pause tonight and look at the clock. Think about the mystery of time. Every second, every minute, every hour, every day, is God's gift of time. It is a gift unearned, simply and freely given to all of His creation.
Pray for healing, Renewal and Reconciliation: Picture Jesus laying his hand upon your head and praying for healing that which has bruised you today as well as the hurt you may have caused others. (Matthew 8:3).
And, now a prayer for letting go: O God, let the cares of this day flow away from me like the retreating ocean surf. at the end of this day, I am thankful for: (name one or more of those you offer up in thanksgiving).
Your prayer of intentions: At the end of this day, I pray for: (name the people and intentions you wish to pray for).
Blessing of the Night: Blessed be! Blessed be!
For my soul, too,
Magnifies God's presence
A prayer of Affirmation: I am in God's care. I pull down the night over all my dreams.
