All of creation can be expressed on a chart which looks much like a tree: The Tree of Creation. We are all of the earth and it is part of us. The perfumed flowers are our sisters; the deer, the horse, the eagle, these are our brothers. The magnificent crests of the mountains, the green grass waving slowly in a warm summers meadow, the body heat of the pony, and human beings -- all belong to the same family created by the One true God.
The rivers are our brothers -- they still our thirst. The rives carry our kayaks and canoes, and feed our children.
The white man treats his mother, the earth, and his brother the sky, as things to be bought and plundered by greed, sold like sheep, or bright beads. His appetite will devour the earth and leave behind only a desert.
There is no quiet place in the white man's cities, no place to hear the unfurling of leaves in the spring, or the rustle of insect's wings.
This we know: ALL things are connected. Man did not weave the web of life; he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.
You may well think that you own God as you wish to own your land; but you cannot. He is the God of all human beings, and His compassion is equal for all red and white people. This earth is precious to Him, and to harm the earth is to throw contempt into the face of its Creator: the One true God. ---- Chief Seattle, paraphrased
When we misuse creation, God permits the creation to punish us. Columbanus taught that 'Those who would trample on creation trample not only upon the Creator but upon themselves as well." The ancients held all of creation in wonder and amazement as exemplified over and over again in the Bible -- read it for the enlightenment it offers you. Process what you have read so that enlightenment might take place.
