The Holy Father resent the message given to us by Christ just over 2000 years ago. A message unchanged by time and space, "Go ye into all the world..." In the parable of the vine and branches Christ spoke plenty. He gives us a personal application, "You are the branches I have been speaking about. I am the Vine, being and doing all the branches need. I now ask you, in the new dispensation of the Holy Spirit, to accept the assignment (the 'Great Commission') I now give you; to be My branches on earth." The relationship He seeks with us is immensely personal. And, it is for us as personal as the first Disciples.
No matter how young, how old, how infirm, hear His voice: "You are the branch." You must be nothing less. Let no false humility, no carnal fear of sacrifice, and no unbelieving doubts as to what you feel capable of keep you from His charge. Our response, if we truly follow Him, will always be: "I will be the branch, with all that may mean - a branch, very weak but as much like the Vine as can be. For I am of the same nature and receive from the same Sprit. I am a branch, utterly helpless and yet openly set apart before God and men. I am as completely given up to the work of bearing fruit as the Vine itself. I am a branch, nothing in myself and yet rejoicing in the faith that knows He will provide for all. Yes, by His grace I will be nothing less than a branch and all He means it to be, so that through me He may produce His fruit."
We cannot serve God and 'Mammon' at the same time, this is a given, for which there is no negotiation, no compromise. Let Christ be your one desire and the one occupation of your heart, worship and trust Him. Abiding in Christ, the one true Vine, becomes nothing more or less than the restful, total and complete, surrender to let Christ have all and work all. Anything less and we fall so very short of the mark, placing ourselves in danger of hearing these words, "Depart from me, I never knew you!" on that fateful day to come.
