We are a feeling creature. When we are in pain, when we are suffering, whether physical or psychological, we want to make it go away. If the pain, or suffering, is great enough we take steps to do just that, make it go away. More often than not, what we do to relieve the suffering places us apart from the love of God.
The more we suffer, the greater our temptations, all the more reason we need a prayer life as prayer alone can strengthen us, help and console us. Do not fall victim allowing pain and temptations to stifle your prayer life. This is where Satan is at his finest: preventing you from prayers, his tool to keep you from a relationship with God. Attendance at mass, and other forms of worship is wonderful. However, your relationship with God is a personal relationship, no different from that of a husband and wife, father and child. It is between you and God, not between us and God. God is always as near as a breathe of fresh air. During times of suffering turn your thoughts to Him, speak to Him as your would your biological father, or mother. He is always there looking, standing patiently, ready to hear your words and thoughts, your needs. Never cease to speak to Him. Keep the eyes of your mind focused on Him always even in your deepest pain. For the deeper your pain, the deeper you must allow Him to carry you into the depths of His Heart as you cling to Him in ceaseless prayer.
