Abraham is not frightened to bargain with God and agree a fair arrangement -- the figures may be negotiable, the terms can be made more favorable, just maybe?
God proves willing to bend a little, or even a lot, but at the end of the day the justice of His judgment is all the more vindicated.
Can we reason with God in such a way? Can we plead His mercy on those in danger or well-deserved disaster? Do we care enough to even try? Do we truly believe it could make a difference at all?
God relies on our prayer to take the limits off His activity in our world. We area not called to prayer in order to pander to His vanity, He has none. We are called to prayer to make a real difference in this life and on this planet.
