Out of sight, out of mind. Or, so the saying goes. Unfortunately, there is a great deal of truth in those six, seemingly harmless, words. Throughout recorded history groups of men and women religious provided much needed services to their respective environs. These were not profit making, there was no exchange of monies. It was not necessary as the care and comfort was given from the heart, from the Christ in the provider to the Christ in the recipient (person in need!). The thought of monetary compensation was as foreign a thought as would have been a trip to the moon. Today, health care and related services are at a premium with the greatest cost taking place at the end of one's life. And, more often than not, necessary health care services end up draining either all, or almost all, of an individuals savings. We are, in our own small way, setting out to provide assisted living and hospice services to veterans at no cost to the patient. I can name a long list of religious organizations, no longer with us, that provided quality, free health care to a needy world, such as Hotel Dieu in El Paso, Texas (long gone). Please pray that we continue to be able to move forward on our project to provide veterans a home where they might live in dignity as they pass from this life into the arms of the Father.
Our order is dedicated to providing quality care and comfort to veterans allowing them to live with the dignity and respect so deserved as a result of their service to these United States of America, at no cost to the recipient. The men and women who enter our order and move on to being a professed member make a vow of poverty. Our reward, our compensation comes in a form no amount of wealth can purchase.
